I’m the type of girl who prefers glamour over simplicity when it comes to fashion. If I could I would wear fantasy-inspired clothes everyday! I’ve always loved the magical world of princesses, warriors, fairies, and all them lovely mystic creatures! Final Fantasy is a perfect model to embrace all that I love about the magical worlds especially when it comes to the character designs.
I remember when I first got into Final Fantasy (back in the early 2000s), I would always envy the characters for being able to dress so fashionable. If only my world can embrace such luxury.
Curse this world with its mandatory obsession with basic clothings!
I love how the creators were able to have so much fun making the characters look ridiculous adored in so much armor, layers of clothing, and complex clothes. The colors, details and layers of each character designs are beyond gorgeous!
Let me show you some samples of my favorite Final Fantasy designs. Female Addition!
Yuna - Final Fantasy X
I can’t talk about best dressed/designed Final Fantasy characters without mentioning this fan favorite. One of the best modernized version of a kimono ever! There is nothing about this design that I don’t like, from the hair to the playful sleeves to the little flower designs- beautiful! I love how there’s little surprises to the design such as the long side slit (which you can’t see unless she knees down) and the long earring. Final Fantasy has a tendency to do this to their designs and I love it!
Ashe - Final Fantasy XII
I have never been a fan of armor fashion until Final Fantasy opened my eyes. This is one of my favorite because it incorporates warrior princess in such a delicately strong way! They are careful not to overdo it on the armor and kept the soft, girly side with the pop of pink and the soft fabric materials. Love how they played with two unlikely elements of masculinity and femininity!
Terra - Final Fantasy : Dissidia
A classic Final Fantasy design back in their Amano periods where the female characters are heavily decorated in printed silk and colorful jewels. This design is a mixture of Persian and medieval times with a twist of FF. Look how mystical she looks! Ain’t that a lovely creature…
Fang - Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy is mostly known for having pretty female characters but Fang definitely broke that stereotype. I love how fierce she looks from that awesome hair to the large cloth that wraps her body. The creators did an amazing job having one big cloth as the basic material and adding details to compliment it!
Lightning - Final Fantasy XII
Ahh my FF female crush and the first FF female lead. (Excluding Yuna from FFX-2, cause it was a sequel) Where do I even start?! This character design is genius all the way through. I love how they are able to make her look so potent and not sexy in a short mini skirt! Yes when I look at lightning I don’t think slutty or sexy, I think awesomeness and strength. Brilliant design for an amazing character!
Vanille - Final Fantasy XIII
I used to dislike this outfit but when I saw it in the game, I immediately loved it and realized what a great outfit it is. I love how they modernized the tribal look and still make it work. This outfit is all about the details. I love how she’s covered in layers of beads, belts/strings, and fur and still looks put together. This would be the ultimate outfit to wear to Coachella :)
Yuffie - Final Fantasy VII : Advent Children
Ahh finally an outfit design that I can actually wear in reality and it won’t be as weird…right? Final Fantasy VII had simpler designs compare to the others but they are far from the boring, basics. Instead of the usual colors and crazy jewelry, the creators uses layers and modernized version of basic clothing. Even when they are being simple, they are far from boring!
Lulu - Final Fantasy X
The famous gothic gal of Final Fantasy in her crazy, gorgeous gown! One of the thing I love about the Final Fantasy designs if how unrealistic they are. I mean, look at all those belts! How is she able to do anything in them?! But that’s why I love it. The creators are not restricted by the laws of reality therefore they are able to create masterpieces like this amazing gothic gown!
There’s so much more amazing designs that I’d like to share but for the sake of a properly lengthened entry, I have to contain myself. :)
